Digital Atlas of Hebrew Manuscripts – Research Fellow (MA / PhD / Postdoc)
The Haifa team of the ERC Synergy MiDRASH Project, led by Prof. Moshe Lavee at the eLijah-Lab,
invites applications for a research fellowship beginning in the 2026–2027 academic year. This is part of a large-scale international Digital Humanities project and is dedicated specifically to the development of a digital atlas of Hebrew manuscripts. The fellow will focus on the spatial, chronological, and material mapping of manuscript transmission, working with structured data, metadata models, and digital visualization tools.
Role and Responsibilities
- Contribute to the design and implementation of a digital atlas for Hebrew manuscripts
- Work with manuscript metadata (places, dates, scribes, collections, transmission paths)
- Collaborate closely with DH researchers, developers, and project partners
- Participate in an interdisciplinary research environment combining humanities scholarship and digital
methods
Eligibility and Qualifications
- MA, PhD candidates, or postdoctoral researchers in Jewish Studies, History, Geography, Digital Humanities, Manuscript Studies, or related field.
- Demonstrated interest or experience in digital humanities, data modeling, GIS, visualization, or manuscript-related data
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within an international research team
- Prior experience with Midrash or Rabbinic literature is an advantage.
Fellowship Details
- The position is offered for a period of up to two years, at up to a full-time capacity.
